Surgical Education
General Surgery Residency Program

Goals and Objectives of PGY Level

PGY4
Technical:

The PGY4 resident will be deciding, whether to remain in general surgery or proceed to fellowship training. We have attached a list of our residents who have entered fellowships in cardiothoracic, colorectal, vascular and plastic surgery, at some of the most prestigious institutions in the country. The remainder of the residents have entered private practice, and many have chosen to start practice at Monmouth Medical Center. We have always provided a welcoming environment for all new surgeons who have flourished in clinical practice.

Academic:
At this stage, many residents will have excellent study habits and be accustomed to clinical research projects and protocols. Our senior residents become solid teachers and take pride in the constant learning process imbued in all the residents. The fourth-year resident becomes more responsible for patient care and the duties and obligations of his/her position. A yearly clinical research paper is still expected.
