"I was talking to a
prospective surgical resident, and during the course
of the interview he asked me, "What does it
take to be a great surgeon?" As I contemplated,
I looked at my hands, and it came to me —
Good hands, a good head and a good heart. And so
was born the theme for this website."
Over the past 30 years, there
have been incredible advances in the field of surgery,
and many of these accomplishments have been achieved
in teaching environments such as Monmouth Medical
Center - one of New Jersey's largest community teaching
hospitals. Advances occur in teaching hospitals
because physicians are in a position to take part
in important clinical research. As surgeons and
teachers, we constantly are challenged to stay current
in our field, and because of our commitment to teaching,
Monmouth always has been able to attract the top
physicians in their fields who want to work in an
academic environment. Because of this commitment
to academic medical excellence, we have pioneered
major changes in surgical practice in New Jersey.
Monmouth Medical Center
is the region's leader in surgical services, earning
a statewide reputation for excellence in the field.
Throughout its history, the hospital's highly skilled
team of surgeons has quickly adopted the latest
surgical innovations - and this pioneering spirit
has set the stage for bringing the most-advanced
minimally invasive procedures to the region. >>>more

In
1990, Monmouth was the first hospital in the state
to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder
removal), and soon after, intraoperative laparoscopic
ultrasound. Today, The
Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at Monmouth
Medical Center has brought cutting-edge surgical
treatment options for morbid obesity, severe heartburn,
benign and malignant colon disease, and a host of
other disorders. And through the renowned Jacqueline
M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center, Monmouth
offers advanced breast surgery led by a team of
the region's finest general and plastic and reconstructive
surgeons. Monmouth-affiliated surgeons were the
first in the region to offer protocol-tested sentinel
lymph node procedure - an alternative to major surgery
in determining whether a woman's breast cancer has
spread to her lymph nodes .
