Preparing for your Surgery

As a surgical patient at Monmouth Medical Center, your care will be handled by a highly skilled team of specialists, which is headed by your surgeon. The information in this section is designed to give you step-by-step information to prepare you for surgery and recovery.

Where to Go

Surgical Day Stay 4th Floor
Enter through the main hospital entrance and check in at the Information Desk in the Main Lobby. Take an elevator from the main lobby to the fourth floor, and walk to the reception area directly opposite the elevators. (If your surgery is scheduled for the weekend, or if you are having an elective procedure, please take the escalator or elevator from the main entrance to the first floor and proceed to the Admitting Office). Cranmer Surgery Center, Ground Floor
Enter through the main hospital entrance and check in at the Information Desk in the Lobby. Proceed to the Cranmer Surgery Center directly behind the main lobby desk.

Arrive to the Surgical Suite

Upon your arrival, you will be asked to change into a hospital gown. Your belongings will be secured while you are in the surgical unit and then will be delivered to your room later in the day if you stay in the hospital overnight. The nursing staff will collect your health information and carry out doctors’ orders, such as starting IV or preoperative medication and applying support stockings.

Parents may stay with children until they are brought into the Operating Room.

Operating Room

While you are in the operating room, your anesthesiologist will observe your heart and respiratory status throughout your operation, using a blood pressure cuff, and heart and respiratory monitors.
